One of the most asked questions in Facebook Mommy Groups is ‘WHAT ARE SOME TIPS FOR TRAVELING WITH KIDS?’ As a first time mom, I too was guilty of asking this question when Zooey was a baby. What I’ve learned is that you can’t listen to everyone and only you can recognize what makes your child happy in unfamiliar situations. I’ve traveled internationally to Tokyo with Zooey multiple times, but still find myself doing an all nighter the day before packing. As moms, we are built to make sure that EVERYTHING is checked off the list and if you’re anything like me, you’re an over-packer, because you can NEVER be too prepared when traveling with kids my friends. Every situation is different and the best thing you can do for everyone around you is make sure your child is happy and comfortable. Memorial weekend is here and below are some tips to make your family trip relaxing and memorable in the best possible way.
• MAKING LISTS •
1. Make a list of necessities
No matter where you’re traveling to, you’ll need your necessities so that you don’t have to buy it when you arrive to your destination.
Basic things like:
- tooth brush and tooth paste
- stain remover pen
- kids shampoo
- face and body sunblock
- bath toys
- night time diapers for night pee pees
- 1 kids bath/beach towel
- extra clothes per day incase of emergencies or spillage
- extra mobile chargers
Usually when planning vacations with kids, it’s important to plan ahead what activities you will do everyday. Research your destination, find kind friendly things to do, landmarks to see, etc. Decide what you’ll do each day so that you can pack your children’s clothes accordingly.
• TIPS ON HOW TO PACK •
Before packing, lay potential outfits on the floor. Coordinate with jackets and shoes.
Once all outfits are decided, invite your little one to come pack with you. It’s a great bonding experience and they will be helping you put the items away instead of making a mess.
When packing in our CALPAK hard case, we usually put the shoes on one side and the clothes on the other. I love it because everything is easy to separate.
We like to roll the clothes when packing because it saves space. We save the items that we don’t want to roll, and place on top to keep everything in place.
Even though Zooey is completely potty trained, there is still a chance of an accident when she’s not in her own bed. Especially if you go to bed later than usual, tired kids have a potential to pee in beds! You should also always pack portable chargers and a camera; those are definitely essentials!
Last but not least, here are my recommended list of 10 items that are helpful during travel in no particular order of importance:
- Favorite blanket or stuffed animal for her to sleep with for the car ride / airplane
- Favorite toys
- Activities (coloring books, crayons)
- Books to read & also to be used for bedtime
- Water bottle
- IPAD for emergencies but keep it hidden
- Favorite snacks for the car ride
- Favorite towel
- Baby wipes!!
